The Ropes at Disney's

Although to many, working at Disney is a dream, it has also long been a real job—with all of the needs, rules, and efficiencies required by any employer. As such, more than five decades ago artist Tom Oreb supervised the creation of an elaborate handbook for Studio employees, and today in particular we thought it would be fun to take a look at "The Ropes at Disney's": the entire 1943 Walt Disney Productions employee handbook. Happy Labor Day!

This booklet was also reworked and published as the handbook for civilian employees working at the Jacksonville Naval Base in Florida during World War II. As an interesting side note, Disney staff traveled to the Navy base to work with Commander Jimmy Thach, who was working with Disney artists on the production of a series of training films for pilots.
