A Season for Discovery at WDFM Summer Camps

A video compilation from last year's Discovery Summer Camp!

Today marks the first day of Summer, so we'd love to tell you all about our Discovery Summer Camps at The Walt Disney Family Museum. These camps offer six hands-on summer sessions, June 27 to July 29, sure to fire-up kids’ and teens’ dreams and expand their imaginations. Limited to fewer than 20 participants per session—to ensure plenty of personal instruction—campers work with industry professionals to explore acting onstage as a Jamboree Player, learn the secrets behind special effects, create an animated short, unwrap the magic of illusions, explore the outdoors with a video camera, or create a comic book hero!

The Walt Disney Family Museum and the surrounding Presidio grounds serve as classrooms; Discovery Summer Camp welcomes campers age 7-17. Camps will be taught by the Museum’s education staff with field professionals as guest teachers. Campers can take home their creations and will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the session.

Discovery Summer Camps are $375 for a one-week session and $650 for a two-week session. Museum members receive a $50 discount per camper. Sessions are 9am-4pm, Monday through Friday. Pre and post-camp programs are also available. For registration, please contact education@wdfmuseum.org. For more information, please visit www.waltdisney.org. Space is limited, so register today!

Walt Gives Back: Toys for Tots!

Many of us can speak at length about the ways that Walt Disney's creativity and imagination have touched our lives.  Sharing the wide-eyed excitement and wonder he brought to everyday life, our stories continue his legacy as we share them with our children and generations to come.  Here is your opportunity to help fill Walt’s impossibly large shoes and share a happy holiday with those who can often be overlooked. This holiday season, The Walt Disney Family Museum will join other Presidio and Bay Area organizations to support Toys for Tots, and share the season of giving.

Shortly after Toys for Tots' inception in 1947, The Walt Disney Company began supporting this program. In 1948, Walt Disney and his animators designed the now famous Toys for Tots train logo still in use today.  Serving less fortunate children across the nation, Toys for Tots has touched the lives of over 188 million children and teens by providing more than 400 million toys during the holidays.  Make your contribution to Walt’s legacy by dropping off a new unwrapped toy the next time you visit the Museum--(and if you trade in a new toy at the front ticketing desk, you'll get $2 off one Museum admission ticket)!

Special thanks to our partners Oakland Museum of California, San Jose Museum of Art, Zeum: San Francisco's Children's Museum, Cartoon Art Museum, Bay Area Discovery Museum, Body of Work, The Presidio YMCA, Planet Granite, and The Thoreau Center.
